Does anyone know how to generate graphs on the dept of labor web site to show what percentage of americans in the work force are making $18/hr or less at 40 hours a week

Is there a way to sort over 18 under 18 and then sort by part time full time while keeping the hourly dollar amount in the sort?

I was reading an article that stated over half of americans in the work force are making at or under $18/hr which I would constitute as a McJob.

People like to tout all this jobs growth but then people get offended (someone at work got upset when I said we should be teaching kids to avoid McJobs at all costs once they pass 20 years old even if they have to live at home or in a van and work on building skills and get an education).

Should americans take a stand against the McJob economy and families pull together and tell crap companies to take a hike we are not working here. Or if you dont have family just opt to live out of your car and be homeless instead of working like a slave in a McJob.

If it is in fact true that over half of working americans are making less than 18 hr then we truely are one of the dumbest populations on earth if we keep voting GOP.

BUT I dont know if it is true ....

That sounds like a repackaged statistic.

Nope. They pay far less. Few over $10/hr.

And teach the sort of common sense needed to do well and start that way early in life? Yes they should.

Teach useful and practical skills -- at least one that could become a decently paid job?
Practical instruction about SEX and foster an expectation of avoiding conception until well after college?
Limiting the total raw number of births across the board?
Support the elimination of the oversupply of no/low skilled people altogether?

Sounds like a plan to me.

People have a right to turn down any job that pays below their personal desired wage.

Employers can offer whatever legal wage they wish.

By the numbers, there is job growth. Wage stagnation is a different stat.

But the thing is, no one is forced to work for a low wage.

McJobs are a double edged sword. The jobs are essential to society, yet run on slim profit margins so it's not really feasible to pay anymore than what is offered.

The taxpayer picks up the social welfare benefit costs that the low wage worker receives.

national statistic that fails to acknowledge that half of americans don't live in high col areas... $18/hr is decent outside of high col areas

Article in the NYT about this topic:

https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/04/b...ity-wages.html

"Automation is splitting the American labor force into two worlds. There is a small island of highly educated professionals making good wages at corporations like Intel or Boeing, which reap hundreds of thousands of dollars in profit per employee. That island sits in the middle of a sea of less educated workers who are stuck at businesses like hotels, restaurants and nursing homes that generate much smaller profits per employee and stay viable primarily by keeping wages low."

To get that higher paid job such as Engineer or Executive, one must become very well educated.

Even if everyone became well educated, you would still need people to work those low wage jobs. In fact it's pretty common to see someone with a college degree working such jobs. Getting that high paid job is a game of musical chairs.

what does automation have to do with it?

you talk about it like everything was equal back before automation. the world always had a small % of wealthy people compared to larger % of not wealthy people

So take a stand against it.

Stop taking those type of jobs. Study more, improve so that you can prove you are worth more money. Voting has nothing to do with this.
