Keep in mind that these are just the ones that are still in effect.

Look at the nature of the emergencies declared under different Presidents and see if you agree that they were all worthy of declaring an "emergency" about.

If not, why didn't the opposing party throw a temper tantrum about them?

The difference is that Trump is trying to do a end run around Congress to get funding that Congress has already set a limit to. Is it Constitutional? I’m sure we will soon find out.

Because they agreed with them? Unlike this farce of a national emergency. There's not one. This is Trump throwing a tantrum so he can try and get his wall. That's it.

There are different types of emergencies which grant different types of rights. I'm not overly familiar with the whole subject.... so the swine flu allowed hospitals to treat off site and suspended some HIPAA rules, something like that. Others grant different actions that normally would not be allowed, and can be used when there is not enough time to go through Congress before an action is needed.

Short answer:

Unlike this one, they weren't fake.

Prior National Security declarations include the Iran hostage crisis, 9/11 and attacks from Somali pirates....not exactly what I would consider controversial in nature.

None of those were an attempt to fund a purpose that had been reviewed and rejected by Congress.

Well, considering all the people that are dying of heroin overdoses...that reaches the emergency status imo.

If any other imported product was killing so many Americans and destroying so many lives, the US would have no qualms about sending in military to deal with the source! even if it was on foreign soil.

Somali pirates? Did they attack Pearl Harbour or something?
