Don't let THEM have your info. Instead let THESE have your info.

After all, doesn't the internet guarantee that we will have the best of everything for free and give nothing in return?

I use Startpage which supposedly searches on your behalf anonymously. Years ago I heard one of the developers talking about it and it sounded like a good idea. .I think they have a secure email service for a fee but haven't looking into it myself.

I've been using various search engines since 1986 an internet searches since 1994. I saw most every one of the big players (webcrawler, yahoo, alta-vista, excite, etc.) come into play WHEN THEY PROVIDED A SUPERIOR PRODUCT. When google came along they didn't do any marketing at all. All they did was provide better results and they became one of the top companies in the world for doing so.

None of us has to intentionally use any other search engines because if a better ones comes along people will flock to it by the billions almost instantly.

Why does Bing has less than 2.5% of the market - being as it is the product of the biggest baddest longest term software house in the history of the world?

Easy. They didn't provide a much better product.

So you have bought into the google restriction propaganda. Good for you. You obviously don't understand trends and search history not to mention other things. Their algorithm is not biased but it sounds cool to say it is.

Duckduckgo doesn't track your movements but they are also not that good, yet.

Duckduck isn't working for free.

"Affiliate revenues come from Amazon and eBay affiliate programs. When users buy after getting on those sites through DuckDuckGo the company collects a small commission."

Put another way, they ARE tracking people. Of course, not to the extent of google which has all those other services, but they certainly aren't "trusting" ebay and other affiliates with the millions of dollars in commissions...they, along with their partners, must be tracking the keyword searches, the click paths and the purchases.
