While at Disney World your parents didn't think you were at home in your room.

My only question is: was this fifteen year-old incapable of communicating “I am fifteen, and my mom is on this flight” to airline personnel, or did they ignore this information and boot her anyway.

The article says she told them.

I hope the parents sue Spirit for all they're worth (admittedly, that's not much) and I hope they collect every penny. This is simply unconscionable. How dare they separate a minor from her parent without the parent's consent or even knowledge? Honestly, not only should Spirit pay, but whatever employee did this should be fired and held personally liable, civilly if not criminally. A message needs to be sent that this is completely unacceptable.
Don't they usually ask for volunteers?

See, that’s a real problem then for the airline. You guys ignored her informing you of this? Better write a check and just get it over with.

Standard airline contracts pretty much allow them to do anything short of beating you with a bat.

don't like it? Start your own airline.

Predicted result: 1000 dollars to go away.

This is how you get rules lacking common sense changed.

How exactly is a 15 year old, who probably has no money, supposed to use public transportation to get from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. to Detroit, Michigan???

You have more lobbyists than the airline industry?

Will not happen.

Yes, she's a 15-year-old . . . whose mother -- you know, the person who is legally responsible for the 15-year-old minor -- is on the same plane, blissfully unaware that her daughter -- who, again, she is legally responsible for -- is being removed from the plane without her (the mother's) knowledge or consent. And you see no problem with this?
