CNN anchor Christiane Amanpour asked former FBI director James Comey on Tuesday if he should’ve restricted people from saying “lock her up” because the phrase amounts to “hate speech.”
Comey asserted during the interview that President Donald Trump targets private citizens with investigations and the power of the executive, citing Trump “calling for the locking up of his political opponents, including people like me.”
Amanpour seized on Comey’s use of the phrase “locking up,” and wondered if the FBI should censor the use of “lock her up” in reference to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
wtf is hate speech. do people actually think they can ban what people say and think? what kind of fascist thinking is this?
Precisely! Speech is supposed to be protected in this country. That includes "ALL" speech, not just speech that is considered "politically correct". I think the main problem is we have a lot of people in this country who still don't understand that the Constitution of the United States is not there to protect our "feelings". The document exists to protect our "freedom". And the idea that some speech should be "banned" or "censored" is an idea that all Americans should be against. We seem to be going down a very slippery slope in this country, mostly in the name of protecting the "feelings" or "fragile egos" of certain members of our society. It's time for everyone to take a step back, and try to remember what freedom actually means before we let it slip through our fingers.
It's pretty bad when James Comey has to remind you about the 1st amendment.
