The Left is at it once again, making victims of the freest, most prosperous women in the world. Yes, I’m talking about us—American women.

In honor of Equal Pay Day, Mother Jones claimed the pay gap costs women $840 billion every year. CNBC reported it represents a $1 million shortfall for “some women.” But as our Thursday BRIGHT editor Inez Stepman wrote in The Daily Caller, this isn’t really true.

“The Department of Labor compiled more than 50 peer-reviewed studies and concluded that the often-cited 77 cents on the dollar gap — calculated by comparing the average female wage with the average male one — was ‘almost entirely’ the result of differing career choices rather than discrimination,” she wrote, adding:

Despite earning more degrees than their male counterparts, American women continue to frustrate left-wing feminists by making different work-life balance decisions. When given the same choices as men, women select different fields of study, value flexibility over salary, work fewer hours, and avoid physically dangerous employment.”

Four out of five of the top-paying college majors have large majorities of male students, while the reverse is true of the five lowest-paid majors, where women boast large majorities in all but one. Women take about twice as many unpaid hours off, and men work 83 percent more overtime. And a plurality of mothers with young children still report that their ideal situation involves part-time, not full-time, work.

What blows my mind is why more companies don't hire all women employees, since they would save so much on their payroll expenses.

Great article, great post. We need to keep repeating this so that the unequal pay lie does not become true from repetition.

When will this myth go away?

It's been disproved a million times. It's the poster child for fake news.

Can anyone point to a study where they equalize to full time in a given field that would lend itself to said study?

IE along the lines of Full time mechanical engineers with 10 years experience in metals processing.

Of course, but you really expect it to go away??? With the lib media, Hollywood, PC society in general all firmly embracing this delusional gynocentrism and "women's empowerment" BS what do you expect? The truth?...Ha...not going to happen. They all have a vested interest in trying to convince and brainwash the general public to listen to their tripe and don't want people to either look far into it or believe anything but what they contend is fact (except it ain't). No wonder Trump won and may win again.

Division, identity, emotions, lie, mislead, distort and anything else to win at all costs. The donkey should be replaced with a sheep.

There are studies that show the gap closes significantly when comparing job to job.

However even those tend to ignore significant differences. Men are 4 times more likely to ask for a raise and work about 10% more hours per year when comparing full time workers.

Once you account for this the pay hap is extremely tiny. Some studies show that young women with no kids out earn men of the same demographic.

If I could get the same exact work for 23% less pay as Obama falsely claimed to fire up his base with lies...then I would never hire a man again.

Facts are facts regardless of the identity that says them. It is illogical and divisive to attack the identity rather than the facts at hand.

As pointed out, it doesn't matter. Facts is facts.

But I am 100% biologically female. And the gap is 100% garbage.

Look, the 77 cents so often cited is a raw statistical average based on the entire population. It does not account for:

  • Women choose careers that typically pay less regardless of sex.
  • Women on average have less job experience.
  • Women on average do not choose high paying dangerous jobs.
  • Women work less overtime.
  • Women are more likely to work part time jobs.
