8 years? Do you mean when Hillary Clinton started it in 2008?

for trump's situation to be comparable to birtherism would require that trump had released his tax returns, they were confirmed by the IRS as valid....... and people still demanded he release his tax returns.

neither clinton or her campaign promoted birtherism. there were clinton supporters among the early birthers ( the PUMA's ) but they were not alone nor were they connected to the campaign.

( ...but you know that )

So were Trump's. His mother was from Scotland, and his father was from, er, Sweden, er Germany, er the Bronx.

Let's skip the PC--Trump wanted to see it because Trump is a racist. He never would have demanded that of McCain (born in Guam).

And did Obama release his tax returns?

White house to block release of Trump's tax returns

The only legal tax returns they can ask for or demand, are those that were produced during his term as President.
Going back any farther while he was a private citizen and it is a BIG TIME 4th Amendment violation.

Which is likely one reason that Trump is hiding his tax returns.

Trump just like anyone else in this country doesn't have to release their federal/state tax returns. Past presidents and some but not all people in congress, since the 70's have release their tax return but did it voluntarily. Nothing mandatory.

Another point is you do know that there is a difference between a personal tax return and a corporate tax return...most what is in the corporate tax return can be found in public records.
Lastly Trump over the past two years has zero to claim in his federal tax or state return and probably doesn't need to file since he donates all his presidential salary to charity.
