What do you think the hospital should have done? Not allowed the patient (who wasn't even suspected of having measles at the time) to enter the hospital? Measles stays in the air, which is the mother's concern.
You realize that there are sick people, many of them contagious, in every emergency room in the USA, yes?
This is really stretching to try to find fault with anyone at all in this situation. Maybe the parents of the girl who had measles if they decided not to vaccinate her, but it's also possible that she could not be safely vaccinated.

Wakefield's discredited reports are still used by anti-vaxxers, even though he was struck off the medical registrar in the UK for unethical behaviour, misconduct and dishonesty for authoring a fraudulent research paper, whilst Wakefield failed to disclose that he was actively involved at the time in establishing several potentially lucrative medical businesses, and the false research would have seen him gain financially.

Right, I know, but that's not what this particular thread is about. The OP thinks that the president of UC should have done something so that a child who ended up having measles (but who wasn't even diagnosed at the time) could not go to the emergency room and contaminate the air, possibly causing a terminally ill child who also was in the ER to be exposed. So I'm curious as to what the OP thinks should have been done, either by the doctors, the hospital administration, the flying spaghetti monster, or whatever.
If anything, they should have taken the immunocompromised child into a separate room away from the rest of the patients. And the parents should have asked for that. To protect their own child.
Newsflash: ERs are dirty dirty places by the nature of the job.

If people would just have their child vaccinated in the first place then none of this would have happened, and sadly it's people like Wakesfield who have helped spread lies regarding vaccines.
In terms of the terminally ill child, according to reports he was being treated in solation, and a hospital emergency department was not the best place for such a child, so the hospital must take some responsibility. Apparently the child with measles was in the room half an hour before the terminally ill boy.
People who have medical conditions related to their immune systems or have severe illneeses should not be left in areas where they can pick up such viruses, and should be taken to a sterile area of the hospital.

Exactly. If you are so sick being exposed to sickness might kill you? You need to take every precaution for your own safety.

I agree that the parents should have requested a separate room in a different area. Maybe they did, we don't know. But if the child was waiting in the waiting room for any length of time, he'd have still been exposed to measles, the flu, colds, GI viruses, pinkeye, etc. I don't really know how it works because I'm fortunate to not have a child in that situation. When my daughter was in the CVICU at a children's hospital, she had a cold and the staff all gowned up and put masks on before they even came in her room in order to protect the other children from her germs. They gowned and masked her when they transported her to the radiology lab.
In an ER, though, all bets are off, unfortunately. Nobody has any idea what types of illnesses are going to be brought in that door.
