Andrew Yang is clearly my favorite US presidential candidate and I already wrote about it, but this is not about elections.
This is about something I hope will eventually become a norm - Left and Right having a respectful and meaningful conversation. No "gotcha", no "but,but,but" no endles whataboutism. Just an exchange of ideas and an honest attempt to find common points. Bot Shapiro and Yang were a real pleasure to listen to.
I'm pretty sure Yang was on a debate team in high school, it definitely shows in the cadence of his speech and his propensity for using statistics. It's why I think every high schooler in America should do some something like debate, teaches you how to have grown up conservation in the Trump era.
Also, now I'm nostalgic because literally everyone on my high school debate team was either Asian or Jewish.

First I don't believe the vast generalization to start with. Second, a company used to hire someone and then train them to do these jobs. Now they want them already trained and they want to pay less for these people already trained.
Then when people argue for programs to help people get training it's called Socialism and fought against as something evil.

Agree. Young people in my country have these debate clubs today but my generation didn't. As a result most people feel very uncomfortable with speaking in public, even if that "public speech" is just informing 20 neighbors about a leakage somewhere in the building.

well, I guess the companies hired someone and trained them to do these jobs because there isn't enough vocational training in the school system. In Germany, for instance, 59% of the schools (high-school age) are vocational. In US, I heard, it's 6% , correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, I'm using Mike Rowe's and Andrew Yang's data here.
College is oversold to young people. In reality it's not for everybody. At the same time, skilled trades are undersold, skilled traders are underestimated until you need a plumber (who is always shown in the movies with buttcrack on full display. Talking about stereotypes This is not just in US. That crap view is everywhere, but we in EU at least have much more vocational schools and that education is basically free.
