It won't backfire. Why? Trump was never popular. Clinton was popular from the start, big difference. In fact, Trump's low approval hasn't changed that much since he took office. Once the hearing, testimony, and evidence pour out, his approval will go even lower like Nixon. American voters don't support Trump now. I agree that an impeachment inquiry is needed. Impeachment is political but an inquiry will plummet his support even more once all the hearings take place.
