She went back to help change the country for the better. Using her journalism degree and purchasing a TV media outlet.
I agree about this journalist and it shows in how much she was respected and loved. Her efforts seemed quite sincere and what happened to her and her husband of less than a year is absolutely heartbreaking. They left two children to grow up without their parents and her unborn child died in the attack.
So if I understand the OP right, she now understands why Omar and her family came to the US from Somalia and why they should not go back.

Completely missed the point, didn't you?
If you flee from a sh*thole country, come to America "for a better life", then don't sh*t on America that gave you that better life. (Or, apparently, Canada, for that matter.) If you think it's so terrible in America or Canada, then go back to the country you came from.

There's got to be more options. If you immigrate from some sh**hole place, move to Trump country and get your house ransacked by pill addicts, are you supposed to smile and say "God bless America"?

What I'm gleaning from this is she was almost akin to Malala in her desire to improve conditions for Somalis in their homeland and in her assistance for those who claimed refugee status in Canada. She seems to have garnered respect from all who met her in either country.
Hopefully, what will come of this is a general condemnation of those ISIS animals in her home country.
