It’s political genius and seems to be the centerpiece of Booker’s campaign, designed to appeal to ALL low- moderate people, across party lines. It’s also DOA.
Funds would be deposited into “low-risk” accounts managed by the Treasury, which the bill assumes would see roughly 3% returns a year. By age 18, America’s poorest children — those from families with incomes of less than $25,100 for a family of four, would receive $46,215 (in 2019 dollars). The richest — those in families with incomes over $125,751 — would only get $1,681 at time of maturity.
We already spend a great deal trying to level the playing field and provide opportunity for children. The American taxpayer spends 6.09% of its GDP educating kids, the fourth largest percent in the world. The average student graduating this year will have cost taxpayers $148,238 in today’s dollars for their K-12 public education. That’s the average student, the student from a home designated as impoverish will cost on average an extra $39,927. If they come from a non-English speaking home taxpayers will pay an extra $18,700.
Just another opportunity to buy votes, with little return to the taxpayers for the expense.

I can't believe anyone would be for this - considering that everyone complains about how the government spends money.
But hey, it "feels good" so let's do it!! Yeah! What could go wrong?
Giving poor people a lump sum - gets them to think the Dems are their saviors, they spend it all, end up broke with nothing to show for it, and look to the Dems to bail them out again.
I know in Canada you get a child credit up to $500 a month for each kid depending on income, which helped me a lot growing up as a mostly poor kid. My mom worked and went to school while raising us as a single mom. We really needed that money for food, clothes, school supplies, and other necessities.
