Republicans were mayor from 1968 - 2000.
A democrat was mayor from 2000-2008
A republican was mayor from 2008-2016
A democrat has now been mayor since 2016.
So I would say this is more the fault of republicans.
If we are talking about black on black crime the means to slow or even stop it is not popular in politics today due to its racist over tones so it is better to ignore it.
If a Republican starts a stop and frisk program it is racist. It doesn't matter if the crime is happening in black neighborhoods over white ones but somehow the Police are racist for patrolling the trouble spots.
The democrats are pandering for the black vote in 2020 so cracking down on crime and handing out longer sentences for violent criminals that use illegal guns in their crimes is not going to happen. Somehow it is not the criminals fault but the rich white men that keep them down are to blame.
What really gets me is how the democrats are tearing up at the plight of "asylum seekers" that are fleeing gang violence South of the border but they don't care about the good folks living in crime ridden filthy inner cities. Doesn't a mom in Baltimore have the same concerns as a mom in Mexico has that her children might be caught up in a gang and murdered or raped?
Sadly no one seems to care and the ones that do are afraid of being labelled a racist for trying to do something about it.
