When the Liberals wake up this morning, you will see "Impeach Trump" and "Investigate Russian Collusion" as being their favorite choices on this poll. Give them time to wipe the "sleepy" out of their eyes so they can quickly pick those choices.
Democrats took control of the House in Jan 2019, to great jubilation and expectation. Not much really seems to have gotten done in nearly 8 months. Even the infrastructure deal, sought by both Trump and Pelosi, seems to have been still-born.
I did a search for '116th House accomplishments' and came up with virtually nothing.
They passed the 'Butch Lewis Act' (bi-partisan pension reform bill) in July. Sounds good. Govtrack gives it a 3% chance of actually getting signed into law.
Reagan was able to get things done with Speaker Tip O'Neil. Obama was able to get things done with Speaker John Boehner. As far as I can tell, the 116th Congress has done zip, zero, nada.
They did pass a bi-partisan bill to promote ex-US Army Captain Bob Dole to the rank of Colonel. Woo Hoo!
Now there is really about 1 year left to get anything done. After Labor Day 2020, it will be all about the elections. What do you think the priorities should be in the coming year?
I thought during an election year nothing gets done......you know....like any real work.
There is no requirement in the constitution that they have a vote. If McConnell already knows that something isn't going to pass, why bother?
Why not meet beforehand and work things out? That's what Reagan/O'Neil did. That's what Obama/Boehner did. That's what Paul Ryan and Patty Murray (one of my sens) did with the budget.
Because that is how democracy works. That's why.
Have the vote.
McConnell was MORE than happy to hav ea vote on the Green New Deal so don't pretend this isn't playing politics.
Harry Reid was infamous for blocking every vote the Republicans sent up. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, feels a little different, eh?
No it feels EXACTLY THE SAME!!!
WTH is wrong with people?
Anyone who justifies it by stating "they did it, how does it feel now that we are" is absolutely clueless.
Just because one party does a "thing" doesn't mean the other party is obliged to be even worse!!!
In the end, nothing is getting done so Obama was and now Trump is forced to use executive orders to get something/anything accomplished. This isn't how our government is supposed to work!
