Of course it is nice having a parent or close relative that can always be there for every sickness, be at home when the kids get off school, etc. No debate there. My mom was a stay at home until I was in high school and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

I will say again the middle class America where dad went off to work and mom stayed home was a short lived period. Many women have always worked outside the home having to leave children with relatives, with older siblings, taking them to work even leaving them in cars, etc. while they were working. The need for childcare isnt a new one.
This is true. Case in point...during World War II. The men were overseas, and the women worked at the defense plants. There was definitely a need for childcare.

Welcome to the People's Democratic Socialist Republic, where you're entitled to pay so much in taxes, you can't afford a family -and- take care of it.

The people who say this are the ones who don't pay any taxes.

Oh sorry they pay sales tax and gas tax with the money from their welfare checks that they totally earned.

Technology and the information age have made our lives easier many times over. Dependency on the welfare state and not being trained properly since too many children are raised in single parent families is the problem.

Then why is there no cost for so many? 45% of all US 1040 filers pay no federal income tax whatsoever. And 27% of all US 1040 filers get so much money FROM the Fed Gov in the form of refundable tax credits that they pay NEITHER federal income tax NOR payroll taxes, with a significant number even coming out ahead. Why doesn't EVERY US 1040 filer have to contribute to the cost of funding the civilized society in which we all live?

And legislators took notice and passed the Lanham Act in 1943 provide subsidies for childcare for working moms (regardless of income).
Its all fine and dandy when women have to pick up men's slack and it benefits the government but lordy the out cry when it is suggested to help individual working families or worse yet single parents.
