Some make a very comfortable living ... and have a killer pension to boot.
It just depends.
But I absolutely hate the argument that ALL teachers are at poverty level salaries. Because it's just not true.
My sister had enough after 18 years. A few years back, she told them after the coming up Christmas holiday, she wasnt returning. She had enough. Most of the supplies she needed for the year, she had to use her own money. Not too mention the bad school curriculum she had to go by. Made up by people that think they know everything there is to know about kids and teaching, but have never taught a day of school.
Where I worked when we got our annual cost of living increase they broke it down by pay, benefits and retirement contributions.
Teachers at least from my state have the all powerful teachers Union.. Their benefit package was over the top expensive and they didn't have to contribute towards their health insurance.
Starting salary is a value term as well. Starting= how long? 1 month 1 semester, 1 year?
Good teachers are worth their weight in gold. Bad teachers and we all had them, aren't worth a feather's weight in lead. Once they get Tenure it is all but impossible to fire them.
Duh. Yeah, there is no comparison you dolt.....cops carry a gun and risk being killed every day.....Jesus....Cops should be paid double teachers pay......
Teachers are fine where they are IMO...
Teachers salaries should be determined in the marketplace and free of taxpayer funds.
How do you propose to pay them?
