one of his documentaries was the supposed death-bed recorded confession of george harrison admitting that paul mccartney was dead. the harrison impression is painfully bad and he gets multiple beatles trivia wrong to the point that gilbert went from selling it as a legitimate documentary to rebranding it as a "mockumentary"...... without changing any of the content!
his next documentary was supposed proof that frank marshall davis was barack obama's father. the only evidence was a naked photo of an unknown woman that gilbert claimed was obama's mother, stanley ann dunham. without any other evidence gilbert makes the leap that davis took the photo in dec 1960 and he is obama's father. researching the magazine that gilbert got the photo shows they were published in 1958, years before dunham could have had contact with davis and before gilbert's claim they were taken.
so, 2 documentaries that are easily proved BS but you want to believe joel gilbert is legitimate this time?
I heard this writer/film-maker interviewed, and found him compelling. I have to look into this some more before drawing any conclusions. I do have some trepidation that he may be a conspiracy nut.
He says that the case was a form of hoax. Unlike as with the Smollett case, this was a fabricated narrative about an actual event that was orchestrated from above by media and politicos.
He notes that Martin was shot in Feb, 2012. The election was 10 months away, and the economy was very poor. U6 unemployment in 2012 was still around 15%. The writer claims that President Obama needed a way to consolidate the black vote, and Trayvon was it.
To me at the time, it seemed like a pretty cut-and-dried case of self-defense. It seemed strange that the President would insert himself into this case ("if I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon"). And of course Obama's point man on race matters, Al Sharpton, was heavily involved.
I also found strange the media reports. Remember the doctored 911 tape from NBC, for which they eventually had to apologize? Why the need in the first place to doctor a tape? Remember the NYT invention of 'white Hispanic?' Even the WAPO found that to be bizarre wording.
The writer pored over 750 pages of cell phone records related to the case, and did find some instances of out-and-out fraud in the prosecution's case. He says that this was all known by politicos in Florida at the time, but they were all afraid of being labeled racist, and so declined to speak up.
Link has a brief trailer of the documentary. The writer talked to George Zimmerman and others involved. He dug up much info on Trayvon Martin that I hadn't heard before. I intend to get a copy of the book, and will report back.
There was surely a coordinated effort to present a false narrative. The only thing I can give them a pass on is the initial claim that Zimmerman was white. That's what the cops wrote in there report, and it only came out later that Zimmerman is tri-racial including 1/8 black. There was no excuse for lying about that later. And they're still lying about this incident, pretending that Martin was murdered.

Trayvon was casing houses as burglary targets. He knew what he was doing, and he knew why Zimmerman was watching him. If your sons think Zimmerman was the bad guy, they're thugs.

Maybe there is some info in it about Trayvon's background the MSM had no interest in exploring (they certianly decided to dig deep into less than positive aspects of "white hispanic" Zimmerman's background as it suited them), but I really dont care at this point.

The mainstream media's behavior wasn't any crackpot conspiracy; it is who they are and what they do. Again and again we see how they shape the Narrative, especially when it comes to racial issues and events.
