An interesting view of Africa's problems and potential solutions.

Africa suffers from artificial poverty caused by negative publicity in the developed countries that scare away potential investors to the continent. Africa’s poverty is also due to bad policies that restrict people in the continent from exchanging commodities amongst themselves...

Hopefully the more capitalist views of a James Shikwati will become more dominate in Africa. For too long after "independence" the dominate view for African development was about more socialist approaches. We can only imagine how wealthy the DR Congo area will become if they adopt more market reforms for that country.

Some good info on how Africans can benefit from their own natural resources.

Another sad fact is that so much is given to the people of Africa, mainly by Europe and Canada. As the saying goes, "give a man a fish, and he'll have food for a day, teach a man to fish and he'll feed himself for a lifetime". Africa has great potential if more collaboration took place, instead of the resources-wars that currently take place.

If we stopped providing aid to Africa the warlords wouldn't have as much money or power...the people would get fed up, rise up, and solve their own problems.

You mean that it's okay to trust those emails from Nigeria? lol!

Seriously though, Africa is a HUGE continent. It might be more productive to direct the discussion towards specific African countries. I would think that potential investors would want to see stable, fair, working local governments that are free from corruption before investing. Then I would think that they would want to make sure that there was no child or slave labor used either. <--- I'm not saying that all African countries have these issues, but some do.

Then there seems to be a lot of male chauvinism in Africa. And to address this problem, I believe that there is a UN organization that supports and invests in woman run businesses in Africa.

Well there was lots of investment in South Africa and Zimbabwe (Rhodesia), but they flushed that down the toilet didn't they?

True, but it's that the problems keeping many of these countries under developed are more similar than different.
