Following orders. I get tired of the media taking odd cases from soldiers who are out of line and blowing it out of proportion like the story going around about them defacing the Koran.
They only push the negative stories on the public because the war is so unpopular.
I worked with a guy who was in Iraq (I say "worked" because he quit to re-enlist and go back) and he's told me about the work he was doing over there - fixing the electric grid (he's an electrical engineer).
I'm not sure what the rest of them are doing...trying not to get killed I suppose. What our soldiers do or don't do doesn't make me support them, as a whole, any less. I'm ticked off at the politicians who are running the show.
Well, at least one of them used the Koran as target practice and another one raped a little 14 year old girl and killed her ..
The ones that abuse their power are indeed, horrible human beings. Let us not forget, however, that they are tried for their crimes and held accountable. As far as the koran goes.....rude and insensitive, certainly but not on par with rape and murder. And also as rare....
But I suppose that most of them are providing security and rebuilding their infrastructure and training the Iraqi army.
I hope that your admission that all US soldiers are raping and pillaging didn't pain you too much...
Follow ridiculous orders, attempt to repair infrastructure which their higher up's had them blow up, clean up the mess our politicians have created.
The better question might be, What are educated Iraqi citizens doing during this?

I think that most of them go and do their jobs as ordered by their superiors. I think a lot of them may not agree with some of the things they are told to do but they do it anyway, thus is the life of a soldier. I think they sit and wish at night to be back home with their families, and contemplating how to best stay alive the next day. I think they are scared, I think they are lonely, I think they are doing their jobs. I think my brother is among their ranks, though he has not yet done his tour. I think there are always a few bad eggs among the ranks of any group, so why do we expect the soldiers to be any different. I think they are strong, they are proud, and they deserve to come home alive. I think I don't support this war, but I proudly support our soldiers. This post is for my friends, my brother, and all enlisted men everywhere. This post is for the soldiers.
