I'm curious about what a list of the main points of disagreement are in this forum. Below are 20 contentious subjects that came to mind. In no particular order of importance:
1. The faults and merits of the two Presidential candidates
2. Racial issues
3. Sexism and women's rights
4. The Media
5. Political parties
6. Election outcome
7. Gun control
8. Abortion, birth control
9. Human sexuality
10. Belief in science
11. Elitism
12. Education
13. COVID precautions
14. Red/blue states
15. Global warming
16. International trade and relations
17. Animal Rights/veganism
18. Middle East politics
19. Religion
20. Social class

• Would you say that both conservatives and liberals have fairly predictable views on each of these subject areas?
• And if so, why?
• Do people change their views or tend to stay the same?

Please feel free to add (or subtract) from these suggestions.

Womens rights? no such thing

Animal Rights lol no such thing

People have redefined words and groups. Liberals and conservatives were somewhat close in their beliefs back in the day. It's really big government vs small government and having local control vs a one size fits all approach.

And there are few conservatives. From the word conserve, use less of

I'm a vegan, except when I'm eating meat.

I don't think you can classify all liberals or conservatives based on these issues. For example, I'm pretty liberal, but no vegan - I love meat! I know many conservatives who believe in science, and I know many very religious liberals.

Well, the list is what is used on a national level to "divide and conquer". There will be people all over the place on the issues. Here at C-D, many appear to be more "metro", big city types. Many people in rural areas don't have internet, or at least high speed internet that is affordable. So, for C-D, the vocal ones generally do fall one way or the other on most of the issues listed.

Many of these are not left/right. Abortion, International Trade, food and religion, for example.

And few liberals believe in or even understand science. If they are college grads, they were probably liberal arts majors. Some conservatives don't believe in science either. Using the term "settled science" is a flag that person is obviously ignorant of science.

That is a good list OP and I would add anarchy on the streets where the Democrats want to defund and disband the Police while most Republicans are Pro Law and Order.

Another would be the Cancel Culture mob that wants to erase History so they can ignore it, forget about it and rewrite it.

Congressional leaders seem to be a frequent point of contention.

"Global warming" is now usually discussed as "climate change".

What's the purpose of your inquiry?
I think, in general, some of the topics could be parsed out into red/blue.....liberal/conservative. Some, not all. I also believe that, in general, red/blue tend to stay in their 'lane' on certain issues - gun control and abortion being obvious ones, IMO. But not always. I attribute this to different factors....education and news sources being primary....but also things that were taught within a family.
I believe people can and do change their views when they are persuaded by facts and are honest enough to realize they may have been wrong about something.

I participated in a group meeting of "Braver Angels" last night, which I mentioned in another thread, and it was very interesting the diversity of opinions from red/blue leaning folks. None of them leaned all blue or all red....

LOL, and both of them are code for...…. man is going to try to change the weather.

One of the most ridiculous concepts ever. Defund the police is right up there too.
