Our problems are fixable and so far we have managed to limp along. And we can change our leadership by following our laws. We don't have to resort to the desperate move of overthrowing the government and the resulting chaos that would happen.
We may not be at the "starving masses" point just yet, but there are millions of Americans who go hungry every day. And just wait until gas is five and six dollars a gallon, but the minimum wage is still six or seven bucks. People won't even be able to make it to work, and if they do, they will be working basically for gas money. Not to mention the higher cost of EVERYTHING which comes with the rising fuel costs. So maybe we are still getting by right now. But a few more hits and we could be on a serious downward spiral!

Lets face it.....bet you a good portion of the American people are charging their gas.....

And no one will be able to pay what they owe a year from now....because you can't charge heating fuel!

Credit also bids up prices since you're using virtual money you don't otherwise possess.

On the contrary. Currently the leading candidate for the presidency came from a modest background. His parents had no great wealth or trust fund to rely upon. He received a need-based scholarship to attend a private high school. After college, he worked as a community organizer in Chicago receiving a modest salary. He was accepted to Harvard Law School, and through hard work excelled, was president of law review, and graduated magna *** laude. Following graduation, rather than join a high-powered corporate law firm, he returned to Chicago to continue his work in community organizing.

His financial success has been largely the result of his two very successful books which he wrote himself. Its actually a rather remarkable classic American success story.

Default strange days

While I don't think America will head down the path fascism or communism. I do believe in the next couple of years America will be forced to put in more socialistic type programs to keep the mass at bay.
Look whether we like or not we are probably going to adopt socialized health care. Granted it would probably look like Obama's plan where the very poor get some but crappy coverage. But the people that can still afford it can buy there health insurance if they want better coverage.
Also if the economy goes far south. Then your probably going to see plays out of FDR book. Basically the government will create WPA programs and the like to put people at work to keep them busy. Busy enough so they don't start to think about tossing out America's capitalist system.
And lastly as for the SS and Medicare/Medicaid issue. Well to be honest I don't see much of a solution period. I really don't know how the Fook we are going to fix that one. Basically it going to look like a 100 car pile-up on route 95 when the bill comes due for that.

Yeah, right at the 128 exit!

sukwoo, granted, Obama and Clinton(Bill) are exceptions to modern day politics but if they did not have the personalities to drum up the MONEY for tv, radio, newspaper advertisment, road trips buzzing around the country, you bet they would get nowhere in their dreams.

Sure, they are exceptional personalities with exceptional abilities. Do you think Joe Schmoe average American should be running the country? At a bare minimum, I want a president who is smart and can effectively communicate.

Of course not but there are many brilliant and knowledable people out there who could possibly be a good leader but can't because they are not rich. That's all I am saying.

If I had my druthers, Colin Powell would be running and Condy Rice as his running mate. And I am white.

Let's not get away from the OP. In 1932, the US nearly went communist except for the socialistic programs FDR initiated, but in saving the US, those programs never gone away.
