An administrator at the University of Toledo who was recently suspended for publicly expressing her viewpoint has now been fired. Crystal Dixon has filed suit against the school.
Dixon, who had been the school's human services vice president, wrote an opinion piece published in a local newspaper saying that she took offense to the notion that homosexuality and the color of one's skin are on the same level in regards to civil rights.

While free speech is wonderful and blah blah blah, what most people do not understand is that there is repercussions to the speech we use. Free speech does not mean, and never was intended to mean, we can say absolutely whatever we want without having to be held accountable. Libel, slander, threats... all potentially carry penalties.
I think the question here is when people in certain positions use their "freedom" and if it can be held against them with respect to certain responsibilities they may have on their job. It's an interesting debate without any clear lines.

The far left in America will intimidate and/or silence anyone whom they disagree with. It's been done in this country since the 1920s. That is what Socialism, Nazism, and Fascism is all about.
fas·cism
A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship.
A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
Oppressive, dictatorial control.
There is a book about it. Free speech is almost dead in America due to Political Correctness, which comes from Fascism and Communism.
Freedom of speech is one thing, but to abuse a position to slander a group of people is another.
Ahh I just noticed the link was from a christian site that is biased towards homosexuals, so there you go. Whether it's about a person's skin color or orientation the bottom line is that it's still about hated. Very unprofessional of Dixon.
If this is a public university, she has the right to free speech and she should sue for her job back and for damages. Easy case.
Not when you work as the vice president of human services. I'm sure there are gay students at UT, she is discriminating against them.
Easy case indeed...hire someone who is for diversity among students not one who says gays should "transform to a godly heterosexual lifestyle that is applauded and freely communicated to the world"
That kind of disregard to others is fine if she worked at say, Burger King. But you must have a certain professionalism when you represent an institution like a university. And being in human services, and dealing with the student body, she cannot expect to speak that way without causing tension and making students uncomfortable. And I don't blame them for not wanting that.

No she is not discriminating against them. She has been accused of such. She is expressing her personal opinion as herself and not as a rep of the university which she has every right to do. If I was an attorney I would love to have this case. Easy money!

What you do at home, or in your church is fine, but when it's part of your job to be open-minded towards everyone, and then to go public with your homophobia is just a poor move.
Would it be all right if the President of the United States said, "I think the Jews have it all wrong, so lets pray they come to jesus"? It's his "freedom of speech" to say so isn't it?
And why were people so outraged when Michael Richards uttered racial slurs? Geez, the man is just "expressing personal opinion."
Hate is hate period, no matter who it's against.
So please, if you enter a university, I highly recommend not pursuing a degree in law.
