The Department of Homeland Security has extended the deadline requirements for a Real ID license to 2025. Moved from 2023.

easier to just get a passport then deal with state registrys!

This is like the 3rd or 4th extension of this. Yes, COVID played a part in one of the extensions but the fact it can keep getting delayed shows how unimportant this really is. If someone is intent on doing harm, I really don't think a star on their ID is going to dissuade them.

I got mine last week.

Passport to tie full name to birth date. Also had birth certificate with me.
1099 to tie full name to SSN
Utility bill and car title to tie name to address.

I tried to use my valid US passport to get a Real ID. According to the DMV, a valid US passport (non-expired) is insufficient proof of identity for a Real ID. I had to get my birth certificate... AND marriage certificate to prove my name changed in 1984 when I got married.
