Humza Yousaf was not elected as First Minister, he was merely elevated to the position of First Minister after Nicola Sturgeon the previous First Minister stepped down following a police investigation in to corruption.
Rushi Sunak, was also not elected and was merely elevated to the position of PM by Tory MP's and not the electorate.
However the electorate will be able to decide in the general election later this year, as there is a mandatory General Election every 5 years, and there also regular local elections including to the various devolved assemblies.
As for the police they have already stated that they will not be investigating J.K Rowling or Huma Yousaf, and that no crimes have been committed.
The legal defences and judicial precedence in relation to such cases including the Scottow and Miller cases and Article 10 of the ECHR, they have already been mentioned on other threads.
Finally it's worth noting that the US has recently been criticised in relation to free speech and journalistic freedoms in relation to the Assange case, whilst there has also been controversy surrounding US Universities and Anti-Semitic speech that allegedly left some Jewish students fearful, and which resulted in the resignation of the President of Harvard and the President of the University of Pennsylvania.
