Joe, I am hoping we can keep that freedom in tact for my lifetime and that can't be too long since I am 76 right now. I say that this Congress will begin to limit it severely before 2010 when so many of them will be replaced. Of course, our President won't veto anything like that, either.

Joe the Plumber & Paris Hilton are still out there yapping, so I wouldn't worry too much. Everybody will get their 15 minutes of fame, for a long long time.

Partly because of the fairness doctrine, and the way...
I witness PC madness used to stop a debate.
Im strongly against anything the restricts freedom of speech for anyone.
Geert Wilders(he is critical of islam)was banned from entering the UK.
Preachers are being charged with hate speech in Sweden, etc
I could see America going this path.
I might disagree 1000% with someone but i would fight for his right..
To say it.Of course you cant ask people to commit acts of violence, etc
It shouldnt be a left or right issue!!!

I agree with your views, but I don't share your panic.

PC is a cultural phenomenon, not a legal edict.

Last I checked, the UK doesn't enjoy constitutionally protected free speech. I don't know about Sweeden.

I disagree with hate crime laws.

That said, I don't think the US is headed down the path of censorship.

Freedom of speech will have precisely the same lifespan as the Constitution. Remember that it is not a right...it is a privilege granted to us by that document. People refer to their "rights," but they leave out half of a sentence when they do. The full sentence should be "...rights as granted by the Constitution." Translation: a privilege you wouldn't have otherwise.

Don't read too much Nasty Nancy Pelosi and her "boys" in the House if you don't see some of that control coming.

Don't listen to those Congress persons who talk about resurrecting the Fairness Doctrine or you may have to come over to our side.

At least Obama just said "Don't listen to Limbaugh" and didn't tell Limbaugh to shut up.

Every time you see one poster tell another to shut up you are witnessing an attempt to limit freedom of speech. Remember that when you read on any forum like this one.
