TEHRAN, Iran — Eight women and one man convicted of adultery are set to be stoned to death in Iran, activists said Sunday.
Lawyer and women's rights activist, Shadi Sadr, said the nine were convicted of adultery in separate cases in different Iranian cities.
"Their verdicts are approved, and they may be executed at any time," she told reporters.
Iran is one of the Islamic countries that supplies crude oil to the US which is then refined into the fuels that power our personal and commercial transportation. Blood diamonds? How about blood oil! I hope that we all sleep well tonight!

I imagine they knew the laws in their own country. This has nothing to do with what we or anyone buys from them. It simply speaks to the mentality of the people in that part of the world. At least they enforce their laws.

Actually, I think the US gets very little oil directly from Iran because of the embargo. Although I do think sometimes it is shipped to various European nations, refined, and then the petroleum products are shipped to the US.

This is very disgusting. The only good thing I can say about Iran is that it is semi-democratic (although there are plenty of restrictions on political parties), there are a lot of opposition groups in the country, and the past few governments have had to rely on things like electoral fraud and gerrymandering to stay in power. Fundamentalist Iran will probably collapse in the next few years on its own, much like Eastern Bloc.

This is because of organized religion. The same reason that we used to burn people alive here in the USA because we thought they were witches and demons. We moved beyond it and Iran has not yet.

"Witches" were hanged and revolting slaves were burned. That was also before the United States existed.

You're missing my point! By the US, and other Western countries, buying crude from Islamic based theocracies, we are indirectly supporting this Neanderthal form of Islam. The only resource that most of these Islamic theocracies have is crude oil. When the crude oil runs out or is supplanted by non-petroleum fuel sources, these Islamic countries will collapse inward like a dark star and millions of people will die in a all consuming ethnic annihilation!

In Salem, they also crushed a man to death with heavy stones because he refused to enter a plea.

The early formative years of pre-America certainly had their own forms of Islamic justice!

Actually he wasn't crushed. He was "pressed" in an attempt to gain information. Pressing is when they put a board or plate on someone's chest and place weights on the chest. It doesn't actually crush you, it squeezes your ribcage making it very hard to breathe. He actually suffocated, which happened to quite a few pressing victims.

It works on the same principle when police officers have killed suspects by pinning them down for minutes at a time. Their knees are usually on the chest of the person with the officer's weight pressing down on them while they are trying to subdue them, causing the cop to accidentally kill the suspect. It's happened quite a few times and from what I have heard and read from cops, it is extremely easy to forget about in the heat of the moment and many cops have done it, but the situation ended before it turned fatal.

Then don't fight the police. Anyone who does deserves whatever happens to them.

As for the topic at hand, this is old news. Iran has been doing sick crap to their citizens for centuries.
