Dh and I were talking about this and neither of us knows the answer. Regardless of who wins, are they allowed to begin using the seal of office? Like in press meetings, etc or will they have to wait until January to use it?

Thanks!

Not until they take office. Although by "tradition" the sitting, lame duck President usually doesn't take any "drastic" measures during the "interrugnum" period. So if you see our missles flying toward Iran it's "by tradition" been cleared with the incoming guy. Although after watching Bush for 8 years I'm not so sure he'd abide by the traditions.

Thanks golfgod! I also didn't know that about the sitting president. So the last month is pretty much a quiet one if possible?

It's not "their seal" or "their office" until Jan!

Transition is usually anything but quiet. But hectic, rather than necessarily newsworthy, might be at the opposite pole...
