Woo hoo!!

Sexual orientation does NOT determine whether or not you'll make a great parent.

"The attorney general's office had argued that gay men and lesbians are disproportionately more likely to suffer from mental illness or a substance abuse problem than straight people, rendering them less fit to parent -- especially children in foster care who already are under tremendous stress.
...
"...[Judge] Lederman dissected 30 years worth of psychological and sociological research, concluding that studies overwhelmingly have shown that gay people can parent every bit as effectively as straight people and do no harm to their children."

Which is completely irrelevent.
As someone who has gone through the adoption process, I assure you that no group of people are automatically accepted or declined based on their 'statistics' or 'likelyhoods'.
Each couple (or single) are vetted as potential parents. There is a long process to go through, including having your physician write a note saying that you are physically healthy, a social worker will do several home visits which include a lot of talking about your past, present and plans for the future.
Noone is given a child because statistically their race/ethno/socioeconomic background has a better trackrecord, and by the same accord noone should be refused a child simply because their race/ethno/socio economic background has a poor track record. The process is individualized. And I am surprised that the judge did not know this. After all, by his reasoning, my dh should not have been allowed to adopt -- he is a white male and just who makes up the demographics of serial killers?

No it doesn't.

Nor does being the child of a gay parent make you more likely to be gay yourself.
