China and India will likely be the biggest growth market for vehicles, so I can see them wanting to compete for some of the business. I don't expect to see exports to the USA from these plants though.
Yes, quite a surprise for those folks who actually fear our greedy big three are in dire financial straits, oh to be sure their American work force is on the chopping block. GM has a long track record for distorting and ruining their blue collar work force's livelihood.
So, you want the headline to read "GM builds 400-million dollar plant in China, and then abandons it"? Would that make you feel more confident in their management?
No, I think the OP would rather have read GM builds in America or GM decides against building in China... Then you hear of all the layoffs in America and you never hear of layoffs in China... so much for an American company...
Our patriotic leaders really are selling everything overseas including the livelihood of many.
"It's nothing personal, it's only business." Remember the scoffing reception Roger and Me received? My own sister shrugged and pointed out that "A corporation is like a shark, it has to keep moving forward." I would expect the fiscal conservatives in the room to applaud outsourcing as the only practical business decision and to suggest that if autoworkers want to keep working on autos they move to China or Mexico, where the jobs are, "and decrease the surplus population."
"Well I failed to bring Roger to Flint. As we neared the end of the twentieth century, the rich were richer, the poor poorer. And people everywhere now had a lot less lint, thanks to the lint rollers made in my hometown. It was truly the dawn of a new era." - Roger and Me (1989)
