P.S. In case you're wondering, I have NO idea what breed my dog is... I even tried having his DNA tested, and they said he was either an extremely rare breed, or too many breeds to isolate. I actually suspect he's an Australian Kelpie, probably mixed with a little Husky or Shiba. There are more pics of him (and the other critters) in my profile, if you want to gush over how cute he is.

Muchas gracias. The kitty on the keyboard is Cyrus, my one purebred... he's a Blue Persian, and has a slight evil streak - but he's also a total lover! Animals are all precious, whether they are rescued, purebred, or even a "designer mutt." Right?

In other words, you have a mutt.

Plenty of conservatives rescue dogs, and plenty of liberals buy them - no connection that I'm aware of, but whatever. I hope they get a dog that makes them happy, whether it's a purebred, rescue or "designer mutt." Not my business, and definitely not yours.
Ya know, there is really nothing wrong with a lot of mutts (if you're lucky enough to get one with no behavioral problems), but lets not try to call these mixes a "breed". They aren't. They are mutts. Period.

Uh, yeah... isn't that what I said in the first place? I'm a mutt mommy, and proud of it!

Btw, I only had him DNA tested for sheer curiosity & fun - and because I was getting sick of people asking what he was, and having to say "I dunno."

I agree, but if somebody wants to call their dog a Labradoodle, Schnoodle or whatever, that's really none of my business. Sometimes I call my dog a "rare Australian Pingo-Doodle" when people ask.

Mutts rock! Who cares if they are recognised by the AKC??

After all, America now has a President who refers to himself as a "mutt"

Breeders and the AKC are a bane. Millions of dogs parish in shelters because people want the status of a pedigree dog.

One thing not mentioned here about mutts is the fact that they (in general) often have far fewer health problems than purebreds (who often suffer from genetic defects magnified from the inbreeding). This natural health advantage found in mutts is called Hybrid Vigor.
