LOS ANGELES - Almost 37 million Americans watched President Barack Obama's first White House news conference on television, according to preliminary ratings figures released on Tuesday.

The one-hour, prime-time news conference on Monday was shown on all four major broadcast networks.

Nielsen Media Research's preliminary figure of 36.9 million viewers does not include viewership on cable news channels like CNN, MSNBC and Fox news, which also carried the news conference live.

Folks are getting tired of the spinners and filters. Of course it helps having a president who can string together a complete sentence.

What does that mean? If someone could not find an alternate channel to view, they could just shut the TV. I assume people tuned in to hear Obama because they chose to.

I avoid napping just to hear him talk... and I was impressed... I think he has some good ideas worth implementing... there are more viewers for a number of reason 1) concern for themselves and the economy 2) its only multiple channels 3) its a reasonable time when people are watching television and are at home 4) they want to know what is going on with the government 5) they want reassurance 6) they want some questions answered and 6) yes, sometimes they have nothing else better to do (although they account for a minority)...

Oops... obviously you're not one of the ones who watched the news conference.

Once Obama got finished reading his opening statement off the teleprompter he had set up, and people began asking questions, he paused, stuttered, said "Um" and "ah" innumerable times, and generally sounded like what the leftists WISH Bush had sounded like. I literally haven't seen such an incoherent performance since my five-year-old was caught with stains from blue candy on his tongue.

I don't consider it important, and chalked it up to Obama's inexperience: he's new on the job. He is very articulate in prepared statements, and I figure that will trickle down to his impromptu conferences once he gets some experience under his belt.

But if I were you, I'd find something else to PRAISE him for, at least for now. This is like praising Daschle for paying taxes, or Teddy Kennedy for abstinence and driving skill.

I'm enjoying watching a President learn. That is refreshing.

Wow he took questions that weren't preplanned and answers weren't on the teleprompter. Thank you god that we have Obama verses Bush III (John Mcain)

The ums and ahs are filler so that brain dead Republicans can finish digesting the last bit of information before he moves on to the next topic. Personally I find it to be very considerate.
