That was Hush Money to placate the masses while the Bush cronies stole the country blind.

Today's economic crisis will be viewed by history as the greatest robbery since time began.

You are so right. I hate it when politicians use a crisis to rob the people blind. This bloated pork bill will indeed go down as one of the biggest waste of money ever.

Quite possibly, but it still has to contend with the fortune P'ed away in the sands of Iraq.

At the same time, no one has been able to come up with a viable option. Tax cuts did not create jobs in the Bush years, and more tax cuts now will produce - SURPRISE!- more of the same.

Inactivity is also not an option, unless you can convince everyone that living in caves could be a good idea.

What's your idea to fix it?

I think the bank bail-out and Iraq and Afghani wars are a bit worse, but don't let reality deter you.

Pelosi is not going on a holiday. She is meeting with the Pope and other representatives at the Vatican. She also stated that if there were no vote, she would postpone the trip.
Sooooooo, how is meeting with the Pope in Italy using our tax dollars any different than the corporate types meeting with each other at some fantastic location using our tax dollars? Is the Pope going to lend us some money? Maybe the trip is about trade with Vatican City? You export some incense to us and we'll build you a bridge in Vatican City with some of our laid off workers. Perhaps it's diplomatic - please Vatican City, no nukes and humanitarianly speaking, go easy on the Cardinals. Consulting with him on possible faith based initiatives she can add to page 959 of Spendapalooza Bill Part II? Maybe she wants to check on the gas mileage of the pope mobile, weigh the Pope or determine if burning all of those candles impacts the environment.

At least the AIG guys that went to the California spa for their meeting were spending money inside the US, boosting the California economy.

They're both odious.

So she is going there on taxpayers dime... nice... Don't be a fool... everyone knows that when you travel to tourist destinations for "work", most of the time you are there, you aren't working.... its basically a free paid vacation (i.e. tax deductible)...

G7 meeting is in Rome this weekend. A bit dicey though because India and China, the up and coming powerhouses of trade are not part of it so it will be tough to get any major decisons/directions out of it.

Pelosi said she would cancel her trip if the Bill didn't pass in time. The final Bill is just a merging of & refining the Bills both Houses passed but leave it to the Repukes to whine about they didn't have enough time to review it. Didn't they review it before they didn't pass it the first time? Does it really matter because they weren't to go pass it anyways! Perhaps they are miffed that this is the first time they have had to read an actual bill in the past 8 years that wasn't written in crayon!
