The Republicans will pay heavily for this in 2010 (Congress, Baby Boomers, wisdom)

Americans blames the Republicans far more than Democrats for the economic disaster that Dubya has left us...
And they (Republicans in Congress) have the absolute gall to grandstand and fight the Economic Stimulus Plan and not lift a finger to fix the problem they caused.
They are committing party suicide - and betting that their opposition will help Obama fail - and remember - he's only trying to fix the mess the Bush Republicans left for him. They want Obama - and the country - to fail because they only care about being re-elected - and feel their chances of regaining the majority are improved if Obama and the nation fail... such is the sickness of their political calculus.
Well, their political strategy is going to explode in their faces.
The country knows that they could care less about the average American, blacks, hispanics or the poor and middle class...
We are going to succeed in spite of this pathetic lot of obstructionists...
And then we are going to sweep them out of office to such an extent in 2010 that the defeats they suffered in 2006 and 2008 will look mild by comparison.
MrBob, one thing is for sure, those in power will pay the price if this plan fails. The democrats should have looked at FDR's attempt to fix the depression in the 30's and learned from this, but they choose to follow in the same footsteps. You can not spend you way out of this problem, you must first fix the cause. FDR attempted to spend his way out of this and it failed, the depression lingered on for 10 years. The only thing that saved the U.S. from a longer depression was WWII.
Time will tell. If Obama's throwing trillion dollars after trillion dollars in more spending to add to the high debt that Bush left works, then maybe people will go for more democrats. If Obama's idea of adding greatly to the national debt doesn't pan out then people may return to ideas of fiscal responsibility.

Really? You've went out and spoke to all of them?
The only reason the dems picked up seats in the last election is because of the Obama voters voting straight ticket, they won't have that luxury in 2010. Just look at Georgia, Sen Chambliss got less than 50% the first time, but then he got 60% the second time because the Obama voters didn't show up. A large number of people that voted in '08 won't turn out in '10.

Your assumption is that the proposed stimulus package is appropriate and a solution (perhaps a partial downpayment, but on the right path). You may be right, and if so then time will prove this to be a wise decision.
However, many folks believe this to be a package that will just lead to more problems, and if they ultimately prove correct then the scenario may play out much differently than you assume.
Personally, I can see the wisdom in an economic stimulus package, but from what I've been able to evaluate so far I think this one misses the mark, so we disagree on the assumed outcome in voter sentiment.

I blame that on public education. There's a perception out there that FDR did a great thing by prolonging a depression for more than a decade.
Are these people really prepared for soup lines and shoes with holes in their soles? They seem to believe that FDR somehow quickly saved the economy when in fact that Depression lasted a very long time.

Yeah, the Great Depression lasted about a decade. I wonder if all the baby boomers out there are ready to spend their golden years begging for change?

And what about all those Democrats that voted YES to the bailout package ?
I myself have spurned both the democrats and republicans..they have melded into a single party..same pig with different shades of lipstick.
Both parties represent big business, not taxpayers.
