"This is a self-serving analysis from the insurance industry, one of the major opponents of health insurance reform," White House spokesman Reid Cherlin said. "It comes on the eve of a vote that will reduce the industry's profits. It is hard to take it seriously," he added.

A top goal of Obama in seeking to revamp healthcare is to rein in costs that have soared in recent decades.

"YOU LIE" comes to mind, if that was the goal, different bills would be looked at including allowing the 1700+ insurance companies to truly compete by crossing state lines.

The White House made the insurance companies into the villains without telling the whole story. The industry decided to fight back. What else would we expect.

Yep, it will reduce the industry's profits, and it will increase our expenses. We will have costs passed on to us in the way of higher premiums, and we will be paying for free health insurance for families that make up to $80,000/year. Those who have so-called 'cadillac' coverage will be taxed on their plans, and those whose medical expenses are sufficiently high to qualify for a deduction on the tax return will have to pay a tax on those expenses. Our health coverage and care costs will skyrocket. And millions of citizens will NOT be able to keep the coverage that they like.

There are a few more "goodies" in there, but that should be enough to keep you awake nights, wondering why in the world do we allow them to do this to us.

So, we should simply leave them to it? Or they will retaliate and raise premiums. They have been left to it for decades and premiums are about 5x higher now than when I entered the workforce. Hmmm.... I don't think even with no changes that premiums wouldn't be in the thousands by 2019.

Just like medicare and medicaid, a Doctor cannot be forced to provide care at the lower cost offered. That is why the majority of doctors do not accept those as they will not accept the government policy. They would not be able to stay in business, or they would have to raise there charges for services to cover the additional cost(and people wonder how the cost of healthcare rises and rises...)

Let's see....

Insurance industry opposes health care reform.

AMA supports health care reform-

Health care reform should include a public and private mix of insurance. The private insurance market must be improved for patients and health care professionals, and the public safety net must be preserved for those in need.

“Let’s give individuals choices so they can select the appropriate coverage for themselves and their families, and promote fair rules that include protections for high-risk patients and greater individual responsibility,” said Dr. Nielsen. “Those who need it most should receive financial assistance to help purchase health insurance.”

You're right. It's not really reform. It's just a means of wealth redistribution.

Why is it that some people don't understand that, in the long run, welfare hurts the recipient and society.
This public option is welfare plain and simple.

We need an exit strategy for the "War on Poverty".
