The Israeli tennis star, Shahar Peer, has been refused entry to the UAE to compete in the two million dollar Dubai Open, which started in the emirate on Sunday.
The world number 48 has been denied a visa by the Gulf state's authorities, prompting a strongly worded response from the Women's Tennis Association (WTA), which runs the women's tour.
This is being played as "Mean old Arabs beating up on poor Israeli girl" but what they are not mentioning is that Shahar Peer is an IDF soldier and is used by the IDF as a recruiting tool.
The reason she is denied a VISA is because of long-standing policy against allowing IDF into UAE, owing to accusations of war crimes.

What a load of BS. Military service is mandatory for everybody in Israel when they turn 18, men and women. So there is hardly a need to use an athlete as a "recruiting tool".
As you read these lines, more Palestinian land is being expropriated to build Israeli settlements and higher walls are boxing in Palestinians. Israeli voters are more and more in favor of stripping Arabs from their native rights.
Arabs can resist this by either firing rockets or boycotting Israel.
I vote for the non violent approach. Would Israel allow "terrorists" to play in their sports stadia?

1) I don't understand what sports has to do with politics...
2) I don't give a s**t if the UAE allows an Israeli player to participate or not. It is their country and they can decide whatever suits them. Does she represent Israel or plays as an individual? In any case, Israeli tennis will continue with or without the UAE.
3) It is funny that for for propaganda reasons they wouldn't let an Israeli girl play, but behind the scene, they conduct business and have many dealings with Israel.
4) Again, what tennis has to do with the Israeli settlements? The UEA (as all rich Arab countries) don't "resist" Israeli settlement building. They simply don't care about Palestinians, one way or another, but will always participate in propaganda.
US Denies Visa for Cuban Scientist to Attend Award Ceremony (http://www.voanews.com/english/archive/2005-11/2005-11-10-voa56.cfm - broken link)
Its a mistake and with Obama in office, you will soon see an end to these policies.
An interesting question is if this scientist represents Cuba or participates as individual.

Hmm..if all are serving in the armed forces at one time or another, can they be considered as civilian casualties if they were killed when out of uniform?
Anyway, if I'm not wrong, an Israeli player was allowed to play sometime last year or the year before. In this case, who can blame the organisers for the denial. Palestinians were being slaughtered in Gaza. Morally it wouldn't be right.
