Since the confederate flag invokes so much hatred and anger perhaps we should also ban other reminders of the institution of slavery; cotton, tobacco, and speaking with a southern accent to name a few. Oh yeah, and how about white skin.

The Confederate Flag is a part of America's history. That is a fact and trying to re-write history is the idea of a few. Getting rid of the tobacco, white people along with everything else is exactly what they want and they are chewing away at America bit by bit.

Slavery is also part of American history. How dare they take away our right to own someone's body.

For over a hundred and ten yrs, that flag took away their lifes. And what rights they deserved. And even after they gained their rights. They were segregated, Outcasts in society. And still today , Theres still people that believe that the flag represents White power. Theres still prejudace morons that need to be kicked in the head what they believe. To me, I love the south, But I hate the errogance, Ignorance and Hate that that flag stood for.

You're trying to argue facts with emotion. Looking at facts, the average African's dignity was stripped when they were chained up and put on a ship, in Africa. May be news to you, but not every African fresh off the boat was destined for Dixie. A black man in New York or Massachusetts was more of an abhorration to the people there than they were in the South. One of the largest plantations in Louisiana, including slaves, was owned by a free black woman. There were 3,000, yes, three thousand BLACK slave owners in New Orleans in 1860. That's 28% of the almost 262,000 free blacks who lived in that city at the time. Contrast that to the fact that only 4.8% of Southern whites owned slaves. In 1860 there were at least six free blacks in Louisiana who owned 65 or more slaves. The largest number, 152 slaves, were owned by the widow C. Richards and her son P.C. Richards, who owned a large sugar cane plantation. Another black slave owner in Louisiana, with over 100 slaves, was Antoine Dubuclet, a sugar planter whose estate was valued at (in 1860 dollars) $264,000.
For Five years, that flag stood for a Constitutional right of self government. What it's been used for since can be argued til Jesus comes back, but it represented the actual Confederacy for five years. And you speak of arrogance? Well your stars and stripes is just the current model of humility, now isn't it? This I garantee, had Bobby Lee come out on the winning end, American blood and treasure would not have been sacrificed at the altar of international banking and globalism in VietNam or Iraq, or countless other incursions around the globe. But no, you got your global empire going now, with US troops in over 130 countries, yet our own borders are wide open. You got your mass government education, covering everything from the evil South to freedom fries, yet it never touches why the South just wanted to be left alone, why Lincoln refused to meet with peace delegations from the South, why he suspended habeus corpus, why he single handedly run his war without congressional consent for over three months, why he had northern dissenters put in prison, the list goes on.
To stress the point AGAIN, slavery was and is an abomination, but has been misused by both sides to make whatever panderizing point they are trying to make at any given time.

Bingo, crashcop. But since we are sensationalizing, perhaps "person" should be thankful for John Wilkes Booth and the eventual assassination of America's benevolent dictator. Lincoln was the one who offered a Constitutional Amendment to forever set in stone the institution of slavery.

arrogance. We won the friggen war.
Well, I'm also a northerner. The right to secede was taught at West Point as a constitution a right.

Let them have their flag.

Bear in mind also that the financing for many of the slave expeditions to Africa came from Northerners. If blacks are offended by the Confederate flag, perhaps we should do away with government housing, food stamps and school vouchers. I'm pretty offended by those!

How about doing away with corporate welfare and usurious interest rates that allow builders with insufficient equity to get loans they are not qualified to obtain.

I sometimes think the North made a serious mistake when it allowed the textile industry to move to the South and followed that up with having the space industry locate there. We should have kept it as an agricultural colony.
