Grussendorf is no one special. He was an aide for other state reps. He switched parties but now claims he can't recall if or when he registered Republican. As far as I know he has paid his taxes.

Palin picked him to SPITE the State Democrats. They specifically asked her to appoint someone else. That person had been critical of her during the National Campaign.

Until two weeks ago, he was a registered Republican. According to Grussendorf, he didn’t realize he was registered as a Republican and it was some kind of clerical error in 2006. I’m not entirely clear on how someone could have gone through the 2008 political season and not realize one was a registered Republican, but that’s the story. I guess the “R” on the voter registration card slipped under the radar. Perhaps he thought all those donation requests, and shiny 4-color postcards, and letters from the Republican party were just coincidence. We may never know

The whole thing is simply a real life version of the Three Stooges. Palin has poked the State Democrats in the eye, they will now commence to publicly beating each other with Hammers and 2X4's. It just gives more fodder to the blogs and radio talk shows.

Alaska Democratic Party

Quote:
Anchorage – Alaska Democratic Party Chair Patti Higgins today issued the following statement about Gov. Sarah Palin’s appointment of Tim Grussendorf to represent Juneau in Senate Seat B:

“The Alaska Democratic Party is disappointed but not surprised that the Governor rolled over the local constituents and showed complete disrespect for the voters.

“In Alaska we have a strong tradition that, when we have to replace a member of the Legislature, the local political party of which the legislator was a member nominates individuals for the Governor’s consideration. We are disappointed that Palin chose to disregard the value and relevance of local input, which prior Governors as well as Palin herself have respected on previous occasions.

“We urge the Governor to respect the local community and the people of Juneau and make a choice they would support.”

Grussendorf describes himself as a “conservative Democrat” (which, I suppose, you’d have to be to not realize you were actually a Republican) who supports resource development and believes the mining industry isn’t always treated fairly. Palin noted his “advocacy for responsible development that will lead to jobs in Southeast Alaska.” (Here’s where you can join me in my flashback to the day the governor “took off her governor’s hat” at a press conference and said she would not be supporting the ballot initiative that would require large mines not to pollute salmon fisheries) Palin’s shadowy reasons for throwing Alaska’s fishing and subsistence interests under the bus...

Yeah..shes' a real piece of work. Good thing she's doing such a swell job of destroying her own credibility.

The mines in SE AK are owned by Canadian companies, by the way, and most of thier employees are from out of state.

Does that mean good ole joe down at the Polar Bear lounge will not get the nomination for the position available? Darn...he always mixes the drinks with a shot and a half every time.

Will have to send him a condolence card.

Palin makes a controversial pick for Juneau vacancy

Gov. Sarah Palin has the right to nominate a Juneau Democrat to fill the state Senate seat vacated when Sen. Kim Elton, D-Juneau, left in mid-term to take an Obama administration job. That's state law. But the law also says the appointment has to be ratified by a majority of the Senate Democrats.

The two sides have to work together to find someone agreeable to both. There's certainly a big question about whether Palin's choice meets that criterion.

Gov. Palin chose legislative aide Tim Grussendorf, who was registered as a Republican until weeks ago. His registration as a Republican was curious, since he previously ran for state House as a Democrat and is the son of former Democratic House speaker Ben Grussendorf.

Given Tim Grussendorf's strange history with his party registration, Gov. Palin has given Senate Democrats ample reason to reject the nominee. Juneau Democratic Party officials are urging them to reject the choice.

well, if you want to go by that, then we conservatives told you liberals a long time ago that obama was nothing more than a community organizer for garbage men and drug dealers. that he was nothing more than a jumped up pimp that only looked out for himself.

guess what? we were right, and you were wrong.
