I knew of this for some time, Dont flame me for it.....but it is true.
If your too lazy to read all of this, it basicaly states that ANY kind of manufacturer of goods that would fall into the US State Department munitions list is subject to ITAR registration of $2250.00 per year. This is a registration intended to regulate technical and intellectual information or physical desings exported out of the country. The fee does NOT give the manufacturer any license or permission to do anything special, just giving the government a heads up that your making something they might be interested in........which cost YOU 2250.00 per year to let them know
Many items manufactured will never be exported as they are in small quantities or simply not worth exporting, but regardless, the manufacturer is now required to register. At 2250.00 per year, this will kill the small business owner/ operator. Since the country is now broke, this registration fee is now becoming a spotlight source of revenue for our bloated government.

Horseshoe you're going to get busted for TOS for printing the whole article. Post a blurb of it, include the link, so this thread doesn't get killed. You can edit it yourself before the boss has to tap you on the shoulder.
I edited it. hope it doesnt get wiped off for whatever reason as this is a very important issue thats coming to light for any smal business.
I know the lawyer from the firm metioned above very well. we tried to get a recomendation to NOT raise the fee when it was opened up publically about a year ago......guess it didnt fly.
A 2250.00 fee for any small biz starting up is crippling.......and most will not even bother beginning.
Yes I agree. Very disturbing that Bush jr would push this past while everyones eye was on wall street meltdown. I'm wondering how they can justify fees this high when we're paying for half a dozen bureau's of Law Enforcement. ATF sideways to homeland terrorism, FBI, then on down... paperwork of this magnitude is justifiable? Smells foul.

It’s never going to happen. Forcing gun owners to pay a fee for their guns stands in the way of their second amendment rights.
Apparently they justify this because a tool and die for weaponry overseas might wind up being munitions used against americans. I can understand that part in theory, but in practice it's not making a whole lot of sense to me.
Seems to me since montana wants to be in the business of mfg arms, the tool and dies should stay INCONUS, averting their justification of excess scrutiny, applications, and fees.
Stac-- the fees are in effect now, and verified here: US State Department - Policy - Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (http://pmddtc.state.gov/registration/fee.html - broken link)
college professors have been prosecuted for breaches of the AECA as a result of access to USML items by foreign graduate students[11] and companies have been penalized for alleged breaches of the AECA where they allegedly failed to properly remove USML items from material used to market defense articles.[12]
