If Obama signs an executive order stating there is a ban on the use of any federal funds/taxpayer, and funds resulting from THIS BILL/law, for use in abortions:
Isn't that an admission that there is funding for abortion contained in the bill?
Isn't it just smoke and mirrors since an Executive Order cannot overturn law?
The wording in the current bill doesn't prohibit taxpayer money to be used for abortion.
That's what the Stupak amendment was all about but his amendment was too complex.
Pelosi said Obama would sign an EO after passage to correct the wording.
It has to do with the public healthcare option.
This article explains it better..it's more about what is NOT in the bill rather than what IS in the bill.
The private healthcare part says no abortion but the public part does not.
Obama lobbied by phone from the White House, then took the crucial step of issuing an executive order that satisfied a small group of Democrats who demanded that no federal funds be used for elective abortions. "We're well past 216" votes, a majority, said Rep. Bart Stupak of Michigan, swinging behind the bill after leading the holdouts in a rebellion that had left the outcome in doubt.
"Today, the President announced that he will be issuing an executive order after the passage of the health insurance reform law that will reaffirm its consistency with longstanding restrictions on the use of federal funds for abortion."

Thanks..pretty hard to modify a bill that hasn't passed.
C-Span is talking about this EO..that it is not a law and will it be debated and challenged.
Ah..so they want to shift it off of the hill and into the courts later on.
This should prove interesting..why not just change the wording now before the vote ?
