How do we pay for vouchers? Yes, you take money away from public education, thats pretty much how it works, less students = less money needed..
So many people miss that simple, yet powerful point. Either they miss it, or intentionally ignore it. Not sure.

That is not exactly true in EVER state. In the Northeast area in states like, New Jersey, Philadelphia Maryland and South Carolina, overcrowded schools in the urban area's are not built as quickly as they need to be. over crowding of schools have been going on for years. States have cut funding for low performing schools without taking into account the over crowding.

I do not agree totally with voucher programs unless there are plans to correct the over crowding of the current public schools as well as additional programs to help children that are struggling. Parents also need to be held accountable for their children's educations, in the black community this is not consistent.

Sonrise, i understand your issue with the discontinuing of the vouchers, but bottom line, the funds are getting funded into the private school sectors without a resolution of the growing problem in the public school sector. Many place the blame on the unions, but there are more than enough blame to go around, the end result is the Educational system is broken and need to be fixed, vouchers are not the way to go about it.

This is not the first video that has circulated concerning the washington voucher program.

More money is spent on DC schools, then virtually anywhere else in the country, yet statistically the students were the worst in the nation, despite said money. The city leaders, much to their credit, (all of whom are democrats, by the way), said that enough is enough. They realized that all of the money in the world can't solve the failed public schools, and they did the unthinkable; they actually put aside politics and put the kids first. The voucher program allows the parent to choose what school they want to put their kids into, and it has been an overwhelming success, as the video showed. The video also showed that the program is so popular that 25 people apply for every 3 available vouchers. If demand does not equal success then I don't know what does. Now Obama, who is indebted to the teachers unions who are adamantly opposed to the voucher program, (despite the kids well being, and success in said program) is repealing the program, putting the kids back into a broken system. This is sad, and infuriating. Politics over poor black kids.

I understand the frustrations, but i don't see this as the President being beholding to the unions. I'm under the feeling that if this can not be accomplished for EVERY child then why should it be done for any. What about the children that are left in the broken schools. As you stated the video showed that the voucher is available for every 3 out of 25 kids.

I know a couple of parents in one town in NJ that work a full time and a partime job as well as selling avon just to send their child to private school because the charter schools are full.

Thats because voucher programs are not in place. If they were in place, public companies can finance projects within days, simply by issuing new stock secured by the vouchers.

Governments are already overstretched, and bonds are not selling at a rate currently to make financing new schools feasible.

Why provide vouchers to a few? Unless vouchers would become available for every child (at least in New Jersey and Philadelphia) You would have an uproar. Parents are already in an uproard when their child is not accepted into one of the charter schools. The Public schools need to be fixed.
