So, apparently when it comes to taxes, the economy, Iraq, national security, government ethics and immigration, more of the American public trusts Republicans than Democrats. The Dems lead the numbers when it comes to health care, Social Security and education. Tied on abortion.
And, yes it's a Rasmussen poll. But they have been consistently tracking these issues.

Rasmussen guessed the '08 election closer than anyone else, and in much more detail. They are respected as the most accurate from what I have read/heard on TV.
The three things the Dems lead in are the 'programs' (god I hate that word now) that could really bankrupt us!

And they are well on their way. Pathetic, really. The Dems have always been all about "programs".
Right now, the Democrats are all about "programs" to save your butt -- directly or indirectly -- and all you can do is whine about it. As for Rasmussen, they lack the resources to do the volume of polls that they do on a rigorous basis. They put their money into a few. The rest are sketchy. They use robo-callers and assume that self-reporting by those who answer is accurate. They don't do internal validation checks and they don't do follow-ups. Too expensive, too time-consuming...

I did the Rasmussen disclaimer, did you not read that line?? But just as others use polls when it supports their argument, this one has been of interest to me.
Your description of Rasmussen kinda reminds me of the lack of time, interest and investigation by those who voted for Obama.
And, no, programs have not and are not the way to make Americans respect themselves or a viable way to improve the present economic situation. They are not going to "save my butt" I have worked hard and am fiscally responsible. I don't need a nanny, thanks.

There was only one poll that mattered and the results have been in for a while now.
