Put a 23MW powerplant on line and babysat it from 2200 to 0100......even had the fam setting in the control room and we toasted with cider. At least I got like tripletime + for my pain......
It had just come to mind that January 1, 2010 will be the tenth anniversary of Y2K and it was about this time that hucksters were hyping the fear in order to profit from the fear. I remember seeing large blue barrels for drinking water, dehydrated foods, and other supplies being sold to survive the Y2K when the power grid was going to go down, no ATMs or banks to distribute money, rioting, mass panic.

I work in technical support so I stayed home and waited for any calls that might come in. Didn't receive any calls at all.
I'm a software programmer. I knew nothing bad would happen. I was amused by the media frenzy and what it caused..end of the world armegeddon.
If you work in the industry then you know most of 1999 was spent checking and fixing the software where needed.
You're right, the company I work for started fixing things in the early 80s. My Mom was in a panic about this after watching all the stories on TV and I did my best to settle her down.
