Five Fattest States:
1) Mississippi (32.5% obesity)
2) Alabama
3) West Virginia
4) Tennessee
5) South Carolina

Five Slimmest States:
1) Colorado (18.9% obesity)
2) Massachusetts
3) Connecticut
4) Rhode Island
5) Hawaii

Studies that rank states by overall heath seem to follow the same pattern. Red states have relatively unhealthy people, blue states have relatively healthy people.

Why is this the case?

Also, why is it liberals want to pay for health care for fat, unhealthy conservatives?

Then again on the left you usually have far more drug users and people engaged in high risk lifestyles fraught with disease. Why would conservatives want to pay for that?

The people in the red states on that list are generally poorer, while the people in the blue states on that list are generally wealthier. I think it has more to do with money than strictly red v. blue.

Those who are poor are more likely to eat fast food on a regular basis than those who are wealthier.

It also has to do with education levels (which translates to rich vs. poor, adding to that point); those who are less educated are not informed of the need for a proper diet and exercise.

It also has to do with nature; states with climates and topographies that are more favorable to more "fun" outdoor/athletic activities are healthier.

The-Richest-(and-Poorest)-Places-in-the-U.S.: Personal Finance News from Yahoo! Finance (http://finance.yahoo.com/real-estate/article/103432/The-Richest-(and-Poorest)-Places-in-the-U.S.?mod=oneclick - broken link)

It corresponds to the poorest states.
Poorer people are unhealthier than richer people.

People in red states are, in general, less educated and poorer.

In most part of the South there is NO sidewalk to walk, you have to drive everywhere and everything is far even you want to walk you can't.
