'that's a Christian website' or 'they made it up'..... etc, blahblahblah.
He meant not specifically one religion or another. We are indeed bound by ideals and a set of values. Many countries in the Mideast are bound by a single religious faith, but we're not.
The state preambles say God, Divine Goodness, the Supreme Ruler of the Universe and so on...those all are general, and not specifically one deity or another.
(edit: Virginia's says "....that it is the mutual duty of all to practice Christian Forbearance, Love and Charity towards each other." But as the website reminds us (and itself?), "Please note that at no time is anyone told that they MUST worship God.")

Wow. TY for sharing.
Did not check all the states, but they were spot on with the Preamble in our state - went and checked it.
Quote:
Since through Divine Providence we enjoy the blessings of civil, political and religious liberty, we, the people of West Virginia, in and through the provisions of this Constitution, reaffirm our faith in and constant reliance upon God and seek diligently to promote, preserve and perpetuate good government in the state of West Virginia for the common welfare, freedom and security of ourselves and our posterity. What he said was correct.
The almighty (as stated in the states preambles) could be christian or could be jewish or could be muslim or is all of them. All are related. They all believe in the same god.

If that is the road your trying to go down to be outraged, you are on the wrong path.
Hopefully most religious leaders in this country are smarter then that.
I think many religious people presume that any mention of "God" or "the Creator" or "the Supreme Being" refers to their specific religious interpretation. This is not true.
