U.S. confirms identity of captured soldier - Afghanistan- msnbc.com

How many of you torture advocates, advocate the torturing of one of our soldiers? How many of you would be willing to tell this kids parents/family that torture is cool?

You know that torture is only cool if Americans are doing it to others.
It's an outrage if others are torturing Americans.

There is no reason for us to be on foreign soil fighting.
Stop all war now.

Very true. An old American trick is to dehumanize the "enemy" so the atrocities you commit against them will be tolerated. Native Americans, Africans and now Middle Easter Muslims have all experienced this fate.

It's sad, when we look at this as a world culture, with all people being created equal as a base for our culture... we do dehumanize those who are weak or with whom we disagree.
We devalue the poor and further disenfranchise those who are different, not as smart as, etc.
We devalue those whose only crime is to be born in a different culture.
Do other cultures do this as well, absolutely.
But too often we use this tactic and scream wildly when it is used against us.

Why not hold ourselves and our country to a higher standard?

Do you honestly think if we don't do any type of so called torture that the enemy would say, "We can't torture them, they don't torture us".

Are you saying that we are no better than they are?
We've already tortured.. Abu Ghraib and Gitmo, to name two places.
You don't think this angers the Muslim population of the middle east?

Torture doesn't provide anything positive, does it?
Are you saying that you condone torture?

Torture is against the Geneva Conventions.
Or do you think that the US is above the law?

I'm sick of all of this "debate" about torture....it is wrong no matter who is doing it imo.If you don't think it is ,then you no NOTHING about torture.

I don't know what the enemy would do but I do know what we should do. We claim to be higher morally so lets act like it.

Now that that's cleared up, how about answering the questions in the OP?

It's pretty moronic though hardly surprising coming from the source that we should stop fighting in Afghanistan.

Muleskinner is correct though torture is wrong for anyone to do.

Hopefully we can get some intel on him and bring him home safe.
