To improve the chances that hard-core heroin addicts will stick with their treatment for opioid dependence and forgo the use of illicit drugs, they should take … heroin.

That article is kinda bogus. My mom works in a psych ward at a hospital and says methadone is actually way worse than heroin. She says people actually get so hooked on methadone that they have to go back onto heroin because its easier to kick. Whats scary is people say the same thing about oxycontin, that it gets you higher and is harder to kick than actual heroin.

But methadone is pure evil, I'd put it second as the worst drug after crystal meth. It rots you on the inside making you a monotonous apathetic drone, and then rots you on the outside, eating away at your teeth and skin and hair.

Thats why we should legalize pot, all it does is deplete the world's Ben & Jerry's supply.

why is it bogus? it says pretty much exactly what you said, that methadone doesn't work in that kind of treatment (managing the addiction instead of getting rid of it). the newsworthy part is that heroin *does*.

and you're right, methadone doesn't do anything to get people off of drugs entirely. it's not intended to. the only difference between methadone and heroin is that junkies get methadone for free so they don't have to rob old ladies to pay for it, and it's no fun. it is more addictive than heroin for most people.
