In asking its question SurveyUSA used the same exact words that NBC/Wall Street Journal had used when conducting its June 2009 survey. That one that found 76 percent approval for the public option: "In any health care proposal, how important do you feel it is to give people a choice of both a public plan administered by the federal government and a private plan for their health insurance--extremely important, quite important, not that important, or not at all important?"

To ensure that its respondent pool was composed of people from similar demographics and political mindsets, SurveyUSA asked respondents a question pulled directly from NBC's August survey. The results were nearly identical.

New Poll: 77 Percent Support "Choice" Of Public Option

And what about the question:

SurveyUSA News Poll #15699

Quote:
And do you strongly or only somewhat oppose this plan?

86% said opposed. More are strongly OPPOSED then are strongly for but I guess we can just forget about them right?

The 86% number is a subset of those who are already opposed to the plan representing those who are strongly opposed. This subset of those who are opposed makes up about 511/1200 surveyed as opposed to the 614/1200 who favor the Obama plan and of that subset 79% favor it strongly.

On a side note more do strongly support then strongly oppose due to the fact there are more supporters then opposition. Just crunch the numbers 79%*614=485 rounded and 86%*511=439 rounded.

So they asked more people the in favor question then they asked the opposed one. How is that an accurate account? The asked 614 the favor question of which 483 favored. They asked 511 OVER a hundred LESS the opposed one of which 441 opposed. If you look at each one on it own more chose opposed in their groups then chose favor in theirs. The % of opposed is higher then in favor even with a more people asked.

They asked a random sampling of 1200 people. More people 51% favored the president's plan then opposed it 43%.Of the 614 (51%) who said they supported the president's plan 79% or 485 of the random sample who self selected the support prez. plan group strongly supported it and of the 511 (43%) who opposed the president's plan 439 of that self selected group strongly opposed the presidents plan. The Hundred less is because of the random sample of 1200 a hundred more people supported the president's plan then opposed it.

That is good news.

Excellent explanation.
