Hundreds of preservationists, politicians and local residents mobilized Monday, gathering at Orange County High School to opine on whether a Wal-Mart Supercenter should be built near a Civil War battlefield in central Virginia.

Each Wal-mart is best considered as another leak in the boat of American prosperity. They sell foreign made low quality junk and their employees still qualify for welfare. Wal-mart and the rest of their ilk are the cancer that is eating our country and economy. Good for the people of Virginia. The locals should be able to decide who they want for commercial neighbors.
I'd say that if WalMart shouldn't build there, then neither should any other 'modern' enterprise.

OK, but I doubt they're ignorant. They chose that location specifically because it's near to an historic site. And the battle to keep them out will be almost as violent as what took place there more than 140 years ago.
