The perfect world?

I'd settle for a world which didn't have such massive incentives for politicians and lobbyists to spread lies to the public. Or one that had substantial consequences for deceit.

A world where people actually cared about their neighbors (fellow americans), not just when they want to brag about their "patriotism".

A world that had more people willing to question themselves and their beliefs, rather than believing they are incapable of error (while making many errors that they seemingly aren't aware of).

This is what I want:

- First thing would be to get lobbyist out of DC. At least make it illegal to except funds from these type of organizations. That way these politicians can realize they were sent to Washington by the people, not some special interest group.

- Some type of Universal Healthcare for everyone in this country. I think it's time for us to catch up with the rest of the developed nations. Set it up in a way that people can't freeload of the system and have to be citizen. Also encouraging people to walk and exercise more so they won't have that many health problems down the road. How to pay for this? My next point...

- Have major cuts in defense spending. We spend an over $600 billion compared to China which spends $60 billion or Russia's $50 billion (World Wide Military Expenditures). A lot of that goes to subsidizing other countries defense. So places like Europe enjoy modern infrastructure and education, while the US struggles to maintain their own. End the current wars overseas.

- Increase taxes on the rich to help recover money from the Bush tax cuts and to decrease the budget deficit. Also close loop holes, corporate welfare for major corporations, and go after companies that set up shop offshore to evade paying taxes. Cut wasteful government spending. A friend of mine works for the Feds and she said a lot of time, departments are allocated money and will spend it on excessive junk to keep from having to pay it back or risk not getting as much the next year. Now imagine every department in the US government doing that. That's a lot of money! I would also Encourage small business growth by decreasing their taxes and giving people more incentives to start a business.

- End the war on drugs, legalize marijuana, and regulate and tax it. Also legalize online gambling and either regulate it at the federal level or let the states regulate and tax it. Empty the prison of drug users.

- Allow people to worship as they please, but don't let religion dictate politics. Allow gay and lesbian couples to get married and serve openly in the military.

- Investing more in the country's infrastructure, including adding regional high speed rail, more funding for local transit projects, building a smart power grid, increasing broadband (believe we are one of the last first world nations in terms of speed and coverage), investing in green energy including solar, wind, hydroelectric, geothermal, and nuclear. Also encouraging states and local through incentives to build smarter developments and bike lanes.

- Spending more money towards education to catch up the rest of the developed nations. I would want some type of college paid for (or at least partly subsidized) everyone. Taxes may have to go up for this, but I think long term it would be worth it, because I honestly believe education leads to a more stable life and I think the reason other developed countries (like Sweden and Denmark, or as the right calls them, commies..) why the crime rate is lower and the wealth gap isn't as high.
