During and after his periods in office he was greatly respected by the people, even those not sharing his social democratic views. The administrations he led forged an eclectic economic policy in which government regulation of commerce, industry and banking was combined with market economics. Abject poverty and unemployment were sharply reduced by his government's policy of industrialisation and redistribution of wealth through progressive taxation.
Obama wants this country to be like Norway. Norway is a place where there is basically no crime or poverty and pretty much everyone is healthy and happy.
The problem is that Norway has a tiny population, lots of natural resources and a generally ethnically homogenous populace, so their style of economics wouldn't be nearly as successful here unless we split up into independent Nation-States.
I'm hoping this post can get at least one of the ignorant people comparing Obama to Hitler, Stalin and Castro to realize how off base they are. Obama is NOT going to murder his detractors or start a war with our neighbors.

Im giving us to 2012. If nothing changes as Obama promised, this is the solution. I have always said the people in Omaha should not be subject to the same Government as those in Los Angeles. It just cannot work.

Strange, its worked for 222 year with one short exception (which bears an uncanny resemblance to the present situation) so I am desperately interested in why it suddenly has failed?
From my vantage point, it seems that one segment of the country believes that because they didn't get there way in one election that its time to take their ball and go home, in essence a redeux of the election of 1860, nothing more and nothing less despite the histrionics of the protests.

It has not failed yet. But obviously it is headed in that direction. I am unsure if anything will change the course. With the constant increasing of diversity in America and the split between those who can and cannot handle it I am pessimistic about a continued United States.

How is it that San Francisco is treated the same as Marion, Alabama under the law? That simply does not make sense.
Why should the gay-friendly city of San Francisco have to base their laws on the gay-unfriendly Orange County? Why should the Pot-friendly city of Oakland be forced to base their laws on the anti-Pot people of San Diego? Why should the Capitalistic people of Imperial county be subjected to the Socialistic desires of the people in San Francisco County? This is just within the (too big) state of California. How could it possibly work in a nation covering 3,700,000 square miles and 300,000,000 people?
